Square Foot Garden - 22 April 2009

Jean has found some willing helpers to recreate and improve on the success of last year's square foot garden. Chris (not pictured) dug the two beds over in February and Jean could barely wait to start planting. Here she is with Lynn (on the right) busy planting out and weeding.

One of our volunteers Jean discovered the idea of a "square foot garden" and wanted to try it out so we allocated a couple of beds to it. This is a method of maximising yields from little bits of land by careful intercropping and sequential sowing/ planting.

You can't get much more local than this - maybe 8 metres from the soil onto our plates! Our Eco-Active Day lunch was made entirely out of food grown by Jean and it was yummy. A big thank you to Jean!
